Avec pour fil conducteur La Passion selon saint Matthieu de Bach, que Fabrizio Cassol a délicatement réorchestrée et à laquelle il a greffée ses propres compositions mâtinées d’épices jazzistiques, manouches et latines, Alain Platel crée avec danseurs, musiciens et chanteurs un spectacle qui refuse l’étalage des virtuosités pour privilégier la force et la cohésion du groupe. Avec un leitmotiv : comment des corps trouvent-ils leur(s) voix, isolément et communément, entre sensualité et recueillement, entre désir d’amour et besoin de compassion. Jean-Marc Adolphe |
Mercy! Alain Platel’s main thread for his new ballet is Bach’s Saint Matthew Passion, which Fabrizio Cassol submitted to a delicate reorchestration and complemented with his own compositions crossed with whiffs of spicy jazz, of gipsy and Latino tunes. With his dancers, musicians and singers, Platel creates a piece from which he bans showing off virtuoso performances in order to put the group’s strength and togetherness in the forefront. One leitmotiv runs through the piece: how can bodies find their voice(s), individually or together, wavering between sensuality and meditation, between the longing for love and the need of compassion?
