Avec G (pour Giselle), le chorégraphe australien Garry Stewart, pour la troisième fois à l’affiche du Théâtre de la Ville, suscite une certaine impatience. Comment cet artiste au trait massif et à la danse hyperactive va-t-il faire un sort au mythe romantique du ballet qu’est Giselle ? Alliant photos, textes projetés, danseurs sur pointes, cette pièce pour onze interprètes déconstruit le scénario pour en conserver les tensions. Sous le signe de l’excès et de l’hystérie, évidemment. Jeanne Liger Garry Stewart, the Australian choreographer, who comes for the third time to the Théâtre de la Ville, creates impatient expectations with “G” (for Giselle). How will such an artist who relies on a sturdy style and a hyperactive choreography handle “Giselle”, that romantic myth of ballet dancing? Using photos as well as texts projected on screen and dancers on points, this piece for eleven performers deconstructs the scenario so as to better keep its original tensions.
