Julien Jâlal Eddine Weiss, virtuose du qânoun (cithare) et directeur du groupe Al-Kîndi, et Sheikh Habboush, respectable soufi d’Alep et spécialiste du chant religieux, redonnent vie à une tradition spirituelle et musicale millénaire qui harmonise le chant, la poésie et la danse. Dans le cadre d’une cérémonie soufie où prennent place des chants et des invocations répétitives (dhikr) dont l’objectif est l’obtention d’un état de transe mystique, Julien Jâlal Eddine Weiss et Sheikh Habboush font cohabiter des percussions, autrefois seuls instruments autorisés dans cette cérémonie, avec des instruments à cordes, le qânoun, et à vent, le nay. C’est un mariage réussi des traditions soufies arabe et turque, servie par la voix envoûtante de Sheikh Habboush, et la qualité des musiciens. Thierry Zarcone |
Julien Jalal Eddine Weiss, qanun (zither) virtuoso and director of the Al-Kindi Ensemble, and Sheikh Habboush, a respectable Sufi from Alep and a specialist in religious chant, revive a millennial spiritual and musical tradition which combines song, poetry and dance harmoniously. In the context of a Sufi ceremony, in which chants and repetitive invocations (dhikr) are meant to induce a state of mystical trance, Julien Jalal Eddine Weiss and Sheikh Habboush bring together percussions, formerly the only instruments allowed in this ceremony, with string and wind instruments, the qanun and the ney. The result is a successful marriage of Arabic and Turkish Sufi traditions, well served by Sheikh Habboush’s bewitching voice and the outstanding quality of the musicians. Thierry Zarcone |
