Reflections on theatre and drama
SATURDAY 27 NOVEMBER AT THE THÉÂTRE DE LA VILLE
L’enfant qui meurt [The Dying Child]
From Euripides and Shakespeare to Chekhov and Ibsen, from Bond, Lévin and Sarah Kane to Mouawad, Gaudé or Pommerat
(éd. de l’Entretemps)
In antique times children were killed mainly for political reasons. Later, in the late 19th century, the motif of “the dead child” surfaced again and again in literary works. In the late 20th century the motif changed into that of “the murder of the child”.
Stage directors and academics investigate the meaning of the motif while pondering the challenge of its stage representation. Can it or can’t it be represented? What solutions should one adopt?
With many guest artists present, the discussion is organized in partnership with the Institut d’Études Théâtrales-Sorbonne Nouvelle and moderated by Georges Banu and Véronique Perruchon.
As soon as the time for this event is decided, it will be advertised in the schedule of encounters.
SATURDAY 11 DECEMBER AT THE THÉÂTRE DE LA VILLE
« Notre Jean-Louis » ["Our Jean-Louis"]
A public dialogue between Anne Delbée and her brother François Regnault, about Jean-Louis Barrault. "Mon Jean-Louis", she would say in her exquisite voice.. "Oh! to hear Madeleine Renaud's diction!" A whole world, a world of theatre was suddenly disclosed to the two teenagers… Once upon a time there was a brother and a sister to whom Jean-Louis Barrault opened his house; they never left him. Having aged, but still a brother and a sister they re-open the rooms of this Cherry-orchard house and look into the garden as "our Jean-Louis" appears. And a whole world of theatre is unveiled.
This event is part of the Jean-Louis Barrault's centenary celebrations.
As soon as the time for this event is decided, it will be advertised in the schedule of encounters.
