Niño de Elche and Raül Refree are so closely aligned it almost seems to be telepathy. The daredevil cantaor and the bold musician-cum-producer were bound to operate on the same wavelength. For Ecstasis, the alignment of mind and music reaches a point of communion, not necessarily solemn, but rather appealing to the senses, a communion of voice, guitar and piano, tradition and experimentation. The duo is interested in mystical poetry and religious ecstasy, seeing them as vectors for deeper human feelings. Poems from different ages are set to music, for a story ranging from John of the Cross to Angelica Liddell, from the origins of flamenco and Spanish music to the highest, most expressive summits.
