North Korea Dance
Eun-Me Ahn
The exchanges between the two Koreas are resuming and Eun-Me Ahn already is one step ahead. A true artist: always offbeat but always hitting the nail right on the head!
She naturally conveys positive and sharable messages about art and life, about what is popular and intellectual, what is classical and traditional. South Korean choreographer Eun-Me Ahn is such magical transmission belt. In France, her talent was noticed in 2013. Her artistic gesture is nourished by extremely diverse codes, from Isadora Duncan’s free dance to shamanism, and her works are each time more adventurous than the previous. To create « North Korea Dance », this ever seeking individual, who loves to stand at the crossroads between dance and society, plunged into a number of dance videos from North Korea, in order to better understand her fellow citizens but also to question the evolution of an art that has been under a dictatorial regime over the past 60 years. A captivating subject to which Eun-Me Ahn will surely add a batch of paradoxical images. With a secret desire slipped between the movements: “Every citizen hopes for peace between the two countries. Maybe today time has come to try to get to know eachother better”.
