WHAT DO A DANCER AND A MAGICIAN TALK ABOUT WHEN THEY MEET FOR THE FIRST TIME?
Kurt Demey and Christian Ubl did not know each other before they were brought together by the Festival d’Avignon in 2019. One is an Austrian choreographer and dancer who works with the body and movement; the other is a Belgian magician and mentalist who plays with chance and suspense. This explains why Garden of Chance mixes both disciplines for a fanciful and subtle show in which the audience is invited to participate. Is it dance? Or a reinterpretation of the magician’s gestures? Each with one foot in the other’s world, wearing matching suits like the Thomson and Thompson of the contemporary stage, Kurt Demey and Christian Ubl join forces to create a haven of light-hearted, funny poetry, a surrealist and Pataphysical garden intended both for young audiences and adults, to make room for surprise and invite us to explore our sensations
