Let it burn
Marcela Levi, Lucía Russo • PERFORMANCE - Dans le cadre du Portrait Lia Rodrigues présenté par le Festival d’Automne à Paris
A frenzied and furious solo, following in the traces of dance and music featuring jazz, soul, and Brazilian funk, taking the audience into the realms of metaphysical fire.
For Marcela Levi and Lucía Russo, the relationship to another person is expressed in terms of difference, appropriation and alteration, this being an organic process of transformation by exchanges in perpetual movement, as if breathing air. “Even when you’re alone, you have a recollection or a thought as a reference,” they explain. In Let it burn, Tamires Costa’s body acts as a hyperlink leading to another person, to Michael Jackson, Thelonious Monk, MC Carol from Brazil, and many others, operating on the principle that “one is not single, but multiple.” This means complete freedom, to the great advantage of the soloist, in both tumult and hilarity, as her eyes, mouth, arms and hips are contorted, grotesque, almost possessed, as her entire body is inflamed in the dances of Valeska Gert and Jo-sephine Baker.
