TRADITIONAL PERSIAN MUSIC
DELAY: Sunday, April 10, 2022 at 5:00 PM
Born in Kashan, in the heart of an Iran steeped in its architecture, music, and poetry, Mohammad Motamedi began playing the ney at a very young age, alone in the neighboring hills. Once in the grip of this inescapable passion, he was initiated to classical singing in Tehran. If listeners continue to marvel at the divine inspiration and profound emotional impact of Persian singing, it is because this art has skillfully managed to go through history owing to the determination of a few enlightened singers like Mohammad Motamedi.
Aware of being a link in the chain of transmission, Motamedi is still able to express his own personality, both humble and profound, within the nomenclature of radif, the classic rule of Persian music, thus appropriating with ever more conviction the inspired words of great poets, ranging from Omar Khayyam to Fereydoon Moshiri and Hafez. This evening he will perform with one of the most renowned Iranian daf players, Mohammad Jaberi, with his long-time right-hand man Sina Jahanabadi on the kamancheh.
