Tomorrow's Parties
Tim Etchells / Forced Entertainment • Dans le cadre du Portrait Forced Entertainment présenté par le Festival d’Automne à Paris
A series of pretty crazy assumptions for a performance more like a dystopian novel.
We have spent a lot of time recently wondering what the world after this one will be like. While history cannot be written in the future, and the future defies attempts at decoding, Tim Etchells and Forced Entertainment will not be discouraged. The performance, devised well before the Covid-19 pandemic, has two actors, one man, one woman, transported into the future. There is no need for a crystal ball or a time machine, but simply the force of the imagination. The principle is sim¬ple: one of the two presents a hypothetical situation in the near or distant future, and the other responds with a counter-hypothesis, and so it goes on. Moving through their forecasts and counter-forecasts, the audience is transported into a universe of the future – comic, wild, wonderful or disturbing, which, ironically, ends up confronting us with the challenges of the present.
