Marjan, the last lion in Afghanistan
The tale of Marjan, the last lion in Afghanistan, is based on a true story that has stood the test of time, is loved by all, and now stands as an ode to justice.
The performance, in both French and Dari, shows the tragic fate of the country of Afghanistan as told through the tale of Marjan the lion, a well-known figure at Kabul Zoo, and symbol of the suffering of the Afghan people from the time of the Soviet occupation, then civil war and through to Taliban rule. The subject is serious, but for children there is the distance and calming effect of the puppets.
