Qawwali Sufi Songs

The month of June will bring one of the most inspired and generous singers of the new generation: the young Shoukat Imran Khan Qawwal. While he has a background in traditional classical Hindustani music, Shoukat is offering a very fresh version of “Panjabi ang” that was a discovery in Europe thanks to the peerless Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and his vertiginous saregams where verse in different languages intertwines with powerful rhythms. Shoukat sets his virtuoso skills to Sufi verse, in particular Punjab poetry, as with the verse by poet Bulleh Shah dedicated to the divine being and object of his love: “Your love makes me dance!” True joy!
