CROSSING THE STEPPES WITH THE URTYN DUU, MONGOLIA'S LONG SONG.
A melody that follows the contours of a landscape: this is what Mongolians sometimes say to explain the origin of long song, whose unmeasured melodies trail slowly from one syllable to the next, crossing a variety of techniques and ornaments in the space of a breath. Quite different from khöömii (diphonic singing), the art of urtyn duu (long singing) is performed throughout Mongolia, varying from one ethnic group to another, depending on whether you are facing the steppe, the mountains or the desert. Eight musicians and singers for an exceptional concert-voyage of long song, dysphonies, fiddles, flute and praise.
