VIENNA AT THE TURN OF THE 20TH CENTURY WAS A CITY OF ARTISTS, INTELLECTUALS AND SCIENTISTS. BUT SOON, WITH THE WINDS OF CHANGE, THAT WORLD WOULD COLLAPSE.

Vienna. Year Zero. Europe was faltering, its foundations shaking. Arthur Schnitzler and Sigmund Freud crossed paths. Later, after the Second World War, after the Holocaust, Europe endeavored to recover. In Extinction by Thomas Bernhard, the main character, unnamed, decides to leave Vienna for Rome. Thomas Bernhard is uncompromisingly critical of his peers. For his new work, Julien Gosselin has chosen the title Extinction. It is a matter of addressing the present, shedding the weight of the past, no longer looking back, moving forward, even without knowing which way to go. No longer do all roads lead to Rome. Disaster is nigh. Salvation can come from only one form of anger.
