Ballet national de Marseille, (LA)HORDE
Age of Content
IN AN ERA OF VIRTUAL IDENTITIES, THE FRENZIED DANCE OF (LA)HORDE SHIFTS BETWEEN DISTURBING AVATARS AND ENSEMBLE MOVEMENT.
(LA)HORDE has issued a warning stating that virtual content now has a tangible effect on our bodies. The avatar-dancers of the Ballet national de Marseille range from hybrid corporeal existence to the pseudo-reality of social media, stoking up trouble in a fascinating essay that redefines choreographic achievement. In Age of Content, our physical and mental identities take on diverse forms in the age of TikTok plus simultaneous realities, defying the visual language of advertising with its formatted desires. In collective virtual dances, in choreographies for combat and jazz comedy, the quest takes us, ironically, all the way to the universe of Lucinda Childs. Then, as (LA)HORDE will never do anything predictable, the group takes the dance floor to heights on the ceiling!
