MUSIC AND DANCE COME TOGETHER AS ONE BODY, DRAWING ENERGY FROM THE EARTH, IN NOCTURNAL MAGIC AND RITES IN THE BASQUE COUNTRY.
Bilaka epitomizes the current approach to Euskaldun cultural heritage, and is premiering his most recent work that challenges the historic tradition of gau beltza celebrating the dead. As the group could never conceive of dancing without musicians on stage, they invited the Adar duo who will be the joyful link between Basque and Gascon traditions. Song, percussion, bagpipes and accordion accompany the dancers in iLaUNA (meaning “ephemeral moon” in both languages). Bilaka, celebrating a living culture with strong roots and open to the world, has risen to the level of ambassador for culture of Euskal Herria, and particularly because their work is part of the universe, and rightly so, as for example with balls where everyone can dance. And together we shall be dancing, as was once the practice on the village green, but this time it will be in the foyer of the Théâtre Sarah Bernhardt.
