NOÉ SOULIER, A CONNOISSEUR OF MUSICAL AND CHOREOGRAPHIC COMPOSITION, ENCOUNTERS THE ART OF BACH.
Noé Soulier’s new original work starts with basic movements from everyday life to explore paths between abstract expression and narrative dance, and keeping well away from both fiction and formalism. The resulting style is lively, with movement becoming its own subject. Then, going even further, performers are given scope to improvise, starting with clearly defined tasks, investigating the innermost dimensions of the act of movement. To render the approach in music there is the counterpoint of Johann Sebastian Bach with The Art of the Fugue and The Musical Offering, an exercise that requires great expressiveness and with a polyphonic structure precluding any narrative mood. Close Up probes this complexity which is itself a reflection on a critical aspect of our inner life.
