Two mischievous eyes are twinkling beneath the brim of the hat worn by the soft-hearted dandy and former punk-rock musician. Over the years, his art had become increasingly minimalist, but now, after a number of lives and some 17 albums, he has come back, adding Greek rebetiko, a touch of candombe and wild milonga to his tangos. Together with his musicians, the charismatic Daniel Melingo launches into hair-raising tales, encountering figures such as Satie, a crazed Gainsbourg, a Japanese baron and Charlie Mingus who’s never far away: an entire world of shambolic Pasolini-style heroes, always caught between a blade and a caress, a duel and a dance.
