CAROLINE GUIELA NGUYEN WONDERS WHY WE NEED TO TELL HAIR-RAISING STORIES TO TINY CHILDREN.

Why do we tell lies to children? To protect them? To send them to sleep? Or so that they can hear wonderful stories which they will later tell to their own children? Caroline Guiela Nguyen addresses the questions, but instead of providing answers, chooses to use her imagination, based on real-life stories, to devise a narrative or series of tales involving often ambivalent associations between real life and invented stories, and set for children. Before writing the work she did her own investigations in pre-schools and primary schools, talking with both teaching and non-teaching staff. This provided her with a wealth of material that in turn produced the work now on stage, using examples to show that from a very early age, associations, some being perfectly clear while others are quite opaque as they move from true to false, can give an idea of the complexity of human nature.
