The Emirate of Bukhara and the Khanates of Khorezm and Qoqand are the historical centers of the three prestigious classical schools (known as maqam), as well as specific traditions of songs and dances of rejoicing. The common feature to these genres and their repertoire is the exceptional context in which they are performed: the toy, a series of banquets and receptions held to mark major family occasions. According to custom, each stage of these festivities is enlivened by a specific genre of music corresponding to its audience: male, female, young, senior, mixed, bilingual, etc. To meet these expectations, some musicians excel in different genres, moving between them in a single session, to the delight of all in attendance. This program will provide a glimpse of their multifaceted art. Combined with the musicians’ innate sense of communication, it will not fail to captivate a wide audience.
