A MAJOR COMPOSITION MARKING CONTEMPORARY MUSIC, IN DIALOGUE WITH A NEW WORK TO BE PREMIERED.

A string quartet and four helicopters were needed for the 1996 composition by Karlheinz Stockhausen. This was a musical revolution with spinning helicopter blades combining with the notes played by the musicians. Five years after that performance, Angelin Preljocaj responded in dance with pure, clearly etched movements, and it marked the beginning of a friendship with the avant-garde composer. For Preljocaj the sound of the helicopter emerged as a terrestrial force. He chose to sculpt the dance close to the ground, transforming it beneath the dancers’ feet through interactive lighting effects. The bodies are in a constant state of alert, folding and unfolding under the force of imaginary helicopter blades, rendering a visual format for the music where each chord challenges the force of gravity. This large-scale revival comes with a new original work by Angelin Preljocaj for an enlightening experience not to be missed.
