CISGENDER AND TRANSGENDER WOMEN FROM ARGENTINA ON STAGE, ACTING AND DANCING THEIR WAY BACK TO FREEDOM. MAGNIFICENT!
There was great enthusiasm for Lola Arias when her film Reas was screened at the Berlin festival and then won an audience award at the Créteil International Women’s Film Festival. The director from Argentina who also runs prison workshops devised a stunning work where cisgender women and transgender persons invented a choreography of resistance and solidarity in a world stripped of human feeling. Now the same people have been released and she has brought them to sing, dance and perform on stage, playing their own roles, defying the past and looking to the future which, while uncertain, holds excitement with resources from their life experience. Here is a musical performance unlike any other, where their past imprisonment provides energy fueling the desire to live and to cope, and conveying that message to the audience.
